As my New Year's gift to you, I want to give you a handful of easy and effective strategies that you can use to make meaningful, realistic changes to your life (and your game).
Making a New Year's resolution can be an incredibly powerful act - and not always in a positive way. Sure, we usually start off strong, but change is freakin' hard, and we often find ourselves throwing in the towel weeks or even days into the New Year.
As you may have gathered, I'm not much of a fan of New Year's resolutions in the traditional sense. They smack of self-fulfilling prophetic doom. We're setting ourselves up for failure, not because we shouldn't change and always strive to better ourselves, but because the way we think about making these changes needs to...well, change.
As my New Year's gift to you, I want to give you a handful of easy and effective strategies that you can use to make meaningful, realistic changes to your life (and, of course, your game).
1. Be Grateful. I mean truly grateful. You've just survived a season that is - for better or worse - largely rooted in getting shit and abject gluttony. Begin each day by thinking about what you are grateful for. This will start your day with a positive spin - and the more positivity you put out there, the more you'll get back. You reap what you sow, my friends.
2. Plan the Day. Each day, set your intentions. This is a damned powerful way to reinforce your goals and help keep you focused and mindful.
3. Stray as Needed. You know how I just said you should plan your day? Well, don't be afraid to unplan, if needed. The goal is to do what is right for you, and what promotes the most joy. If what you planned for the day isn't going to pan out, don't make yourself miserable. Try a different path and move on. Happiness is the main objective.
4. Happiness Rules. I'll say it again: happiness is the main objective. If you're not happy, you're not thriving, and if you're not thriving, you're not operating to your full potential. Nothing is going to get done if you're half-assing life, so don't be afraid to put yourself first. Everything will fall into place when you take care of you.
5. Take Down the Walls. Stop being resistant to new experiences. There is only so much we can change in life, and when we stop obsessing over things we have no control over, existence becomes much easier. Sometimes, the only thing we can control is how we react to change, and when we let down our walls and keep our minds open, you’ll see you get more out of life.
Listen, we don’t get a dress rehearsal for life: this is it, and this is why making the most out of every moment and every opportunity is key to your happiness, success and peace – and that’s precisely what I wish for you this year: happiness, success and peace, on and off the tables.
